Phra Maha Prasat, the Grand Palace. The main structure, Dusit Maha Prasat Throne Hall, was the cruciform-planned structure with a tall prasat spire. Located to the left, with a connecting hall, was Phiman Rattaya Throne Hall. The entire compound was surrounded by a low wall, marked with two gates, as well as the Aphon Phimok Prasat Pavilion. The photograph was taken before Chakri Maha Prasat Throne Hall was constructed in 1876. This photo is from the Vajiranana National Library Collections, which was established by Prince Damrong in 1926. Since 1977, the Collections have been under the aegis of the National Archives of Thailand.
