Description
  • This boat is belonging to the Damta-tribe of the Jayapura coast. It is commonly used as a means of village-to-village transportation, with the capacity of maximum 30 people. The boat’s decoration symbolizes the fauna of Jayapura—Kaswari bird’s head, monitor lizard, and the seagull. This boat was brought from Jayapura—by sea, within 3-months, rowed by 15-people—to Jakarta in August 1995, after following the Arung Samudera expedition which was participated by sailboats from all over the world. This boat is a masterpiece that reflects the uniqueness of Indonesian culture, reflecting the diversity of Indonesian maritime culture from Papua.
