• The portrait of A Mother Sewing by S. Sudjojono depicts the figure of Sudjojono’s wife, Mia Bustam—who was pregnant with their first child—sewing while sitting and relaxing. This artwork combines the naturalist-realist technique style in potraying Mia Bustam’s figure, and expressive strokes on several areas of the painting, which give the impression that the artwork looks unfinished. Sudjojono has a humanist outlook with great concern for those near or around him. During this period, Sudjojono painted his family several time in portraits as well as in other domestic activities.
