The Wayang Museum is a museum managed under the Art Museum Management Unit, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Culture Office which was inaugurated by Governor Ali Sadikin on August 13th, 1975. This building was built as the de oude Hollandsche Kerk (Old Dutch Church) in 1640 and was used as a church until 1808. The old church was abandoned and used for various purposes until Bataviaasch Genootschap van Kunsten en Wetenschappen (Royal Batavian Society of Arts and Sciences) bought it in 1937 and used it as a museum. Now the Wayang Museum has collected 6.898 collections of shadow puppet from various regions of Indonesia and abroad, including Wayang Kulit, Wayang Golek, Wayang Beber, Wayang Klitik, Wayang Revolusi, Wayang Suket, paintings, masks, dolls, wooden statues, and gamelan ensemble. Museum Wayang merupakan Museum di bawah Unit Pengelola Museum Seni, Dinas Kebudayaan Provinsi DKI Jakarta yang diresmikan oleh Gubernur Ali Sadikin pada tanggal 13 Agustus 1975. Bangunan ini dibangun dengan nama de oude Hollandsche Kerk (Gereja Belanda Tua) pada tahun 1640 dan digunakan sebagai gereja sampai tahun 1808. Gereja tua itu ditinggalkan dan digunakan untuk berbagai keperluan hingga Bataviaasch Genootschap van Kunsten en Wetenschappen (Perkumpulan Seni dan Ilmu Pengetahuan Royal Batavia) membelinya pada tahun 1937 dan menggunakannya sebagai museum. Sampai sekarang Museum Wayang telah mengoleksi sebanyak 6898 koleksi wayang dari berbagai daerah Indonesia dan luar negeri, antara lain, Wayang Kulit, Wayang Golek, Wayang Beber, Wayang Klitik, Wayang Revolusi, Wayang Suket, Lukisan, Topeng, Boneka, Patung Kayu dan Gamelan.

Blencong is a coconut oil-fueled lighting device used for the Wayang Kulit performance. It has a Garuda bronze-statue motif carved in it; implying the strong influence of Hindu mythology in the 18th century Javanese community. In 1925, it was owned by a Dutch officer, Casel A. Heshisius, and kept hidden during the Nazi era until finally in 1976, granted to the Wayang Museum. Blencong is an important heritage object for Indonesia for its historical values, metal-art carving artistry in the 18th century Indonesia, as well as for being the evidence of civilization for its continuous usage until present Indonesia.

Wayang Kulit Intan collection of Wayang Museum in Jakarta, amounted to 346 with the same specifications and standard form of wayang-kulit. The basic ingredients of wayang kulit are; selected buffalo skin, covered with traditional material paints. To raise its value, both in terms of the beauty and the pride given to the customer: the wayang kulit are sprinkled with diamond or ruby/yaqoot. Wayang Kulit Intan, which was ordered in 1870 by a wealthy Chinese merchant from Muntilan, Central-Java named Babah Polim, possessed an important values for Indonesia for being one of the oldest of its kind that still present today.
Gamelan Kyai IntanWayang Museum Wayang Museum
Gamelan Kyai Intan is a set of Lara Salendro dan Pelok Gamelan, made of bronze. In its time, this Yogyakarta-style gamelan was often used to accompany wayang kulit performances. The year of its manufacture was around 1870 as part of the initiative of Babah Polim, a wealthy Chinese merchant from Muntilan, Central Java. This gamelan is considered to be a valuable cultural heritage for Indonesia for it is very rare in type, uniquely designed, and is very small in number: because it is one of the oldest gamelan instrument, aged more than 100 years.
